PROJECT REVIEW:
Progress so far:
I have developed the skill of being able to work in a quick paced environment, gradually becoming unafraid of experimenting and creating imperfect work in order to build up developments to a stronger final piece.
I've realised what I am very interested in in terms of processes and subjects. I enjoy dated processes such as different types of photo printing e.g cyanotypes, darkrooms, I've began to enjoy and throw myself into video-making and I am intrigued by subjects from an underground culture, exploring things that are separate to daily and normal life.
I want to focus on the theme of escapism through the means of video-making alongside elements of photography. Within the video, there may be capturing the moment in front of me, performance art, a feeling. I'd like my work to create a feeling and tone that everybody can relate to.
To open up research, I will look into doing interviews, exhibition visits related to fantasy/escapism, Vox pops, documentary books and films.
I will evaluate my project through getting peer feedback, whether my work creates an effective response from the audience and I will also keep on questioning whether I have taken enough risks and have pushed myself one each development. If the answer is no, then that means I keep on going.
PROJECT AND CONTENT DESCRIPTION
Escapism
To capture the feeling of escapism, the moment in-between coming away from reality and falling into a different physical or mental space. To create a feeling through my work that people can relate to in different ways.
I will be first looking at movement and club culture, the way the nightclub/electronic scene is a place where people are in the moment and away from mundane life. Club culture is such a sensory and nocturnal experience that it is a great starting point.
Problems to resolve are if I am going to document club culture I need to make sure that I have permission to take photos/videos in a club and that people are okay with this. I also need to figure out how far this can be developed without being too over the top or repetitive.
I am seeking to develop the skill of being able to capture a natural moment and create a sensory atmosphere where viewers would feel like they are there with me and the subject.

Working Project Title: ESCAPISM
Which of the Part 2 pathway projects are you intending to extend?
I’d like to extend more on self, portraits and body politics, Hear Make Heard and Film And The Moving Body. I like the mediums and processes I have used in these but specifically I am very interested in the ‘Blue is a Boy’s Colour’ capturing people when they do not notice, capturing their interactions with people, the movement etc.
How will you adapt and extend your investigation?
When doing this project, I was really influenced by an artist called Allan Kaprow, he wasn’t focused on the photography but the feelings captured. The photographs are very performative and display moments of discomfort, awkwardness, vulnerability and trust. These aren’t feelings that I particularly want to portray but I’d still like to follow the same process.
What is the intention of your project? i.e who are you communicating to and what effect might you realistically aim to achieve with your work?
I want to capture the feeling of escapism, where people go to be away from their normal life, whether thats towards religion, nightlife, theatre etc. they all share that same feeling. I want my work to feel relatable to people even if the demographic I am focusing on is different to their lives eg. If someone’s escapism is baking, I still hope to make relatable work even if it is about someones escapism being partying.
How does this relate to your chosen area of design or art practice?
This relates closely to film and the moving body, self, portraits and body politics, and Hear Make Heard.
